Hammer toe

This normally occurs when the smaller toes become bent and deformed, usually caused by a tendon or joint imbalance.  Over time callus and corns can form on the joint causing pain from shoe pressure.

What might the podiatrist do?

• Perform a physical exam of the foot.
• Arrange for an x-ray.
• Appropriate footwear advice.
• Strapping in the correct position.
• Provision of Orthotics.
• Referral for surgery  and assessment if necessary.
