Bunions

A bunion is caused by a misalignment of the joint and result in an enlargement at the base of the big toe.  It is often swollen, tender and painful when footwear is worn.

What might a podiatrist do?

• Physically examine the foot.
• Arrange for an x-ray of the foot.
• Recommend padding or taping.
• Prescribe orthotics as needed.
• Referral for assessment for surgery if necessary.
